Description
A delicious garlic chicken dish with a sweet and sour sauce, perfect served over rice or with vegetables.
Ingredients

- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon light brown sugar (packed)
- 3 cloves garlic (pressed or finely minced)
- 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts (cut into 1-inch pieces; boneless skinless chicken thighs may be substituted)
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- 3 to 4 tablespoons olive oil (plus more if necessary)
- 2 green onions (sliced into thin rounds)
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, apple cider vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce, sesame oil, light brown sugar, and minced garlic until well combined.
- In another bowl, mix cornstarch with salt and pepper. Coat the chicken pieces evenly with this mixture.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the coated chicken and cook until golden brown on all sides (about 5–7 minutes).
- Pour the prepared sauce over the cooked chicken, stirring well to coat evenly. Simmer for an additional 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat and serve hot over rice or with your choice of vegetables.
Notes
- This dish can be served with rice or a variety of vegetables.
- Boneless skinless chicken thighs can be used as a substitute for the breasts.
